A flexible approach is bringing benefits for the UK’s mobile phone users and network operators.

MLL Telecom is a leading provider of secure managed services for both the mobile service providers and the public sector who work with all of the major network operators in the UK. The company is a long-standing user of ATDI’s planning and modelling tools for planning, modelling and managing its microwave networks. Now MLL has added the capability of hired licenses of the software to its existing lifetime licenses.

 “There are major advantages to us in hiring licenses,” says Nigel Phillips, microwave design manager at MLL. “It gives us instant capacity when our business suddenly grows or when a new network is being brought online. While we will always keep a certain number of perpetual licenses, hired ones mean we can adapt rapidly to business opportunities and our customers’ needs.”

ATDI UK managing director Gilles Missud adds: “Hired licenses are priced to give maximum value to customers who need that extra capacity right now without having to make a longer-term financial commitment. Because ATDI and MLL have such a long-standing relationship, all of us at ATDI are delighted when MLL’s business suddenly jumps and we are always happy to play our part in helping them fulfil their contracts.”

The partnership between ATDI and MLL extends beyond just software as ATDI engineers have trained MLL staff and provide technical support contract to the company. “It means that when MLL suddenly need new people to use ATDI software to the limits of its capabilities, they are often already competent in the use of our software before new licenses have even been hired,” Gilles says.

ATDI announces an innovative method to build digital terrain dedicated to propagation of electromagnetic waves.

How to improve the quality of radio planning:

Actual medium resolution clutter data dedicated to radio planning are based on classification (Dense urban, Suburban, Village, Building blocks, forest, hydro…). With this type of datasets, deterministic propagation models give acceptable results compared to measurements, however, a lot of measurement points cannot be correlated (even with tuning), due to the lack of accurate digital terrain and clutter information (heights and locations of the obstacles, open areas…).

This is why we have developed an innovative method to build more accurate DTM and clutter layers that can be used to create Medium Resolution (10m-20m) and High Resolution datasets (1m-5m).

Different free and commercial sources are combined to create more accurate layers at reduced costs compared to standard datasets.


In our example below, on a Medium Resolution dataset (20m)we extracted uncorrelated points from mobile measurement survey, then we performed fixed measurements on these points and built an innovative DTM/Clutter/Building dataset from open data to get better measures/predictions correlation results.

We have used Deygout 1994 / Fine-E propagation model in ICS telecom EV.

Dataset resolution: 20 m.

Test transmitter: 50 W / 138 MHz.

Above, we can see a more realistic urban repartition (in red) than Standard Clutter model.

Building elevations are extracted and medium and high vegetation areas are classified.

Linear (roads, railways, waterways) are added to delineate urban blocks.

This new method improves significantly the quality of simulations, especially in urban areas. It’s free for Medium resolution datasets and at very affordable price for High Resolution datasets.

RADIOCOMMUNICATION : L’Agence Nationale des Fréquences confirme son choix de continuer à travailler avec ATDI


Le groupe ATDI se félicite que l’ANFR, l’Agence Nationale des Fréquences, (chargée par l’Etat des missions de planification, de gestion de l’implantation des émetteurs, de contrôle et de délivrance des autorisations et certificats radio) ait renouvelé le 13 juillet 2017 la maintenance et les supports des licences des logiciels d’ATDI.


L’Agence Nationale des Fréquences a confirmé son choix de continuer à utiliser les logiciels de calcul et d’ingénierie conçus par les équipes d’ATDI permettant toute la gestion du spectre électromagnétique en France : renouvellement de 36 licences du logiciel ICS telecom et package pour un nombre illimité de licences du logiciel ICS Manager.


Ces dernières années ont été marquées par une croissance spectaculaire des usages en matière de radiocommunication et la gestion du spectre hertzien (l’ensemble des fréquences sur lesquelles peuvent opérer tous les systèmes de radiocommunication) est un enjeu majeur pour l’Etat.
Depuis plus de 20 ans, ATDI demeure un partenaire historique des autorités françaises pour aider à la régulation de ce secteur sensible, tant dans le domaine civil que militaire.
