History

Origins
HTZ was the first commercial software dedicated to radio network planning. It was created in 1988 in Paris.

Dispersion
Once the benefits of the software were acknowledged, distributors were eager to sell both in France and elsewhere.

Energy of the source
Encouraged by the level of sales, the software creators established their own company, launching ATDI in April 1991 in Paris. The company continued to develop HTZ warfare (radio planning, technical spectrum management, electronic warfare) and ICS  telecom (radio planning, spectrum management, digital cartography). The co-authors of ICS telecom joined ATDI between 1992 and 1993.

Power of the signal
In 1991 ATDI participated, in collaboration with Thomson-CSF, to develop and supply the first Radio Frequency Spectrum Management and Control System. In 1992, ATDI took part in the development of the first French drone system created for STAT. Towards the end of 1994, in collaboration with Jacques Deygout, ATDI integrated into the softwre, a new version of the diffraction model which gives unrivalled precision to the calculations, no matter what the resolution of the DTM, frequencies used (VHF/UHF/SHF & EHF), and number of obstacles.  In 1997, the Monte-Carlo module of HTZ offered more than 30 parameters. For the first time, the software was used for prospective analysis of compatibility of Teledesic and Skybridge systems.

ATDI Spectrum Management and Engineering software was chosen for Sotchi winter games, World Cup 2014, Olympic games 2016…

HTZ warfare and ICS telecom integrate the following innovative functions:

  • Automated frequency assignment engine (1990)

Propagation modelling

With an original focus on broadcast, PMR and radio telephony, ATDI extended its offering to include electronic warfare and tactical communications, spectrum management and microwave networks.

Today, ATDI offers its software solutions to all industry-sectors both civilian and military.

Radiation
In 1996, during during the buy-out ofThomson-CSF by Lagardère group, ATDI buys SM/EW division of Thomson-MEL in Crawley (UK). This becomes ATDI’s first office outside France. Subsequent offices were opened in USA, Spain, Russia, Australia, Ukraine, Poland, India and Singapore.

In 2012, ATDI opts for a new form of product and services distribution – implementating direct and indirect network of sales across Europe, Asia and Africa by agents, distributors and certified partners.

Signal reception
Today ATDI has in excess of 2000 customers  and more than 21 new versions of their flagship software solution have been released worldwide. ATDI is a global leader supplying all-in-one solutions for radio network planning and spectrum management alongside electronic warfare and tactical communications software.

Corporate Responsibility

ATDI engages with people – people as customers, people as staff and the public.

ATDI has a long-standing commitment to rough sleepers. As an industry that looks to the skies, it seems appropriate to be conscious of what is at our feet. Their commitment also extends to those affected by the quality of the environment and ATDI works to minimise its impact on the physical world.

CHARITY

ATDI makes contributions both individually and corporately. As a company, its donations of sleeping bags and wind-up radios to rough sleepers brings both life-saving warmth and a source of entertainment to people who would otherwise have none.

Individually, technical director Nick Kirkman, was awarded the Royal Yachting Association Lifetime Commitment Award for his 20 years of teaching children to sail on the Hampshire coast. Lead engineer Simon Parsons makes his contribution to the UK’s cultural life through his volunteer work as an archaeological geophysicist who has found Iron Age and Roman farmsteads and a Saxon iron working settlement around his home village in Cambridgeshire. ATDI works with local charities to identify and distribute where needs are identified within the community.

Social responsibility

ATDI aims to create a sustainable business plan based on evidence-based strategies that lead to real change. Central to this strategy are the issues that matter most such as attracting and retaining a skilled workforce, speed of technology change and assessing ATDI’s impact on society. Corporate social responsibility goes beyond compliance with legislation but instead focuses on ethical values and respect for people, communities and the natural environment.

ATDI takes a sustainable approach to business, a concept which recognises the importance of business continuity, particularly in relation to providing jobs and custom for suppliers.

Environment

ATDI is committed to minimising its environmental impact. While engineers will attend customers’ offices and work sites whenever required, at other times they work from home; ATDI facilitates this as a means of reducing the individual and corporate carbon footprint.

This commitment is further enhanced by the progress made towards a paper-free operation to minimise waste, conference rooms shared with other companies when not in use by ATDI and actively promoting recycling both internally and amongst its suppliers.

Quality
ISO

ATDI’s reputation is built on quality; it is the bedrock of the company’s 30+ years of successful trading.

For ATDI, quality means quality of service: the company finds solutions to customers’ radio problems, whatever they happen to be.

And ATDI’s quality can be quantified. Since its inception, the company has maintained an effective quality system such that it is now accredited to universally recognised ISO standards 9001 and 27001. Details can be found at www.iso.org. The ISO accreditations are proof of the quality within ATDI’s management systems and the security of its data management.

Compliance with the Quality System is mandatory for staff working on projects anywhere in the world. In addition, a Quality Environment and Safety Systems Manager is responsible for the effective application, operation and development of the system on a day-to-day basis.

Investors in People (IIP)

Investors in People is an internationally recognised accreditation for improving management of people. The standard defines what it takes to lead, support and manage people well for sustainable results.
Based on over fifteen years of leading practice, ATDI processes are underpinned by rigorous assessment methodology and a framework which reflects the very latest workplace trends, essential skills and effective structures required to outperform in any industry.

Successful accreditation against the IIS standard is a sign of a great employer, an outstanding workplace and a clear commitment to sustainability. ATDI was awarded the Silver standard, recognising their contribution and improvement from the previously awarded Bronze standard.
