Ireland is moving to the next generation of television services with help from ATDI.

The company’s technical director, Nick Kirkman, has held meetings with key Irish players including the national spectrum regulator, the broadcast regulator and national broadcasters about the introduction of the DVB-T standard.

“It’s all at a very early stage but that is by far the best time to be doing proper planning and modelling,” Nick notes. “Right now, all parties are getting ready for the auction of the relevant spectrum and it was useful to be able to discuss with them the practicalities of both selling and using the frequencies once they are released.”

When introduced, the new DVB-T signals will have to sit alongside all other spectrum usage from mobile phone networks to radio systems for the military and emergency services. ATDI has worked with spectrum regulators and companies in a number of European countries to assist the smooth transition to the new standard.
