CCOMGEX’s main responsibility within the Brazilian military’s land forces is to manage its operating activities, logistics and education as it relates to electronic warfare and communications, as well as, managing signal intelligence and cooperating in the areas of science and technology. ATDI sent its training personnel to CIGE’s school in Brasilia to execute the week long training in March. Along with the support of ATDI’s local representative, Latin Media, the 13 CIGE students received hands-on instructions on how to utilize HTZ warfare to model triangulation and jamming scenarios.
The CIGE students were taught a wide range of topics, such as, how to optimize the placement of an electronic attack system on a particular geographic location, identifying hidden enemy networks with direction finder algorithms, calculating fixed or mobile jammer coverage/efficiency analyses over 3D terrain and optimizing allied radio equipment location to intercept enemy communications without detection from enemy radars.

The electronic warfare students also learned how to detect mobile targets along a path and command control communications with Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV). They also learned planning of military satellites GSO & NGSO orbit, constellation planning and deployment with ground-based network link analysis capabilities. ATDI trainer, Joel Rodriguez says “The best part of conducting a training course for customers like CCOMGEX is when the users say, ‘Now, I am equipped to do the work I could not do before’ with a smile on their face. We are looking forward to working with and supporting all of the CIGE students for years to come.”

With the assistance of Latin Media, ATDI will be providing maintenance support to the CIGE students for the next two years.

“We are very excited to contribute to the preparation and success of these world-class events,” said Pierre Missud, CEO of ATDI Inc. “ANATEL’s vision and tech-savvy environment is the perfect place to innovate and create enduring systems for the next decade.”

As Brazil will host the FIFA Confederations Cup in 2013, FIFA World Cup™ in 2014, and Rio 2016™ Olympic and Paralympic Games, ANATEL identified the requirement to upgrade its current spectrum management system in order to support the increased demand for spectrum during these events and to increase their services to Brazilian subscribers.

Thousands of additional frequencies are required to ensure proper wireless service operations, such as broadcasting and public safety. This challenge requires the leveraging of all the available technological advances in frequency management, propagation and interference engineering, business process optimization, mobile, and online capability deployment. The fixed contract delivery timeline, limited testing, and quick ramp-up add to the challenge.

“This is a very innovative project and during the upcoming years we will remain focused on executing the contract in accordance with ANATEL’s specifications,” said Alexandre Souza, Technical Director of ISOFREQ. “We are happy to have the opportunity to work together with ANATEL and ATDI’s professional teams to ensure that the project goals are successfully met.”

The new optimizations will be tested in late April 2013 in anticipation of the Confederations Cup.

Iceland’s spectrum regulator, PFS, has bought ATDI’s flagship planning and modelling tool ICS telecom to help it manage and exploit the country’s spectrum resources. Iceland, with a population of just 322,000, is slowly recovering from 2008’s banking and financial crisis. Now bolstered by increasingly positive economic news and a higher status from ratings agencies such as Fitch, the island nation is growing in confidence once more. “PFS’s purchase of ICS telecom is definitely with one eye on the future,” notes ATDI Ltd access networks lead engineer Paul Grant. “ICS telecom is the perfect tool for both seeing what you have and what you can do with it so, clearly, the management at PFS is looking at what new services are feasible as economic confidence grows – while also bearing in mind Iceland’s unique geography.” The country’s population is concentrated in the capital city, Reykjavík, which is home to 120,000 people. The other 202,000 are scattered at a density of three per square kilometre; the equivalent figure for England is 407. “Europe’s most active volcano, spewing clouds of dust and potentially affecting telecommunication and broadcast networks, is only one of PFS’s many challenges.
“Europe’s most active volcano, spewing clouds of dust and potentially affecting telecommunication and broadcast networks, is only one of PFS’s many challenges. The UK is only too aware of the effects of recent eruptions but a lesser known fact is the effect of volcanic ash on signal attenuation and reduced signal strength. Modelling real-life scenarios with ICS telecom enables the regulator to understand the impact of such an occurrence and provide mitigation solutions.”

“Saying that, statistics gathered from recent eruptions show that the largest disruption comes from overloading due to high user demand,” Paul comments. “Being able to manage increased network traffic during emergencies is an integral feature ICS telecom and one used by many blue-light service networks globally.”

We are happy to announce that the following improvements have been recently added to ICS manager interface: Support of the SNS V7 format (for notifying to ITU in the Space services). Following the 2012 conference, the ITU updated the format of the spatial databases to version 7. This format is now mandatory since the 1st of January 2013 for submitting data to the ITU. ICS Manager has been updated to handle the new version of SNS databases format (V7) and Gibc software Optimization of queries. It is now possible to organize queries is subfolders, to move them by drag and drop. This allows to manage your queries in more comfortable and ergonomic way Facilitating exchange with ICS telecom. STATIONi database selection and MWi database selection merged in a single dialog, channeling plans automatically exported Improved cartographic features.
