ATDI continues to develop solutions to address the latest spectrum engineering challenges in the satellite sector

ICS telecom EV features advanced satellite network planning functions for GSO/non-GSO satellite operators, system integrators and service providers. Features include:

  • GSO/non-GSO satellite coverage planning and link budget
    (EIRP, G/T, C/N)

  • Wide-beam and HTS beam planning across all satellite
    frequency bands

  • Automated site planning

  • Automated site optimization

  • Automated frequency planning

  • GSO vs GSO and GSO vs non-GSO interference analysis
(ΔT/T, C/I, PFD and EPFD masks)

  • Satellite vs terrestrial co-existence analysis

  • Earth station coordination (ITU APP 7)

  • DTH network planning

  • VSAT network planning and optimization

  • Covers all satellite services: FSS, BSS, MSS, Earth-exploration, meteorological and more

HTZ warfare, ATDI’s military radio planning tool, features a host of additional features for military network operators facing challenges such as network planning on a dedicated governmental satellite or optimizing military traffic on a commercially leased capacity:

  • COTM (Communications On The Move) network planning for tactical forces

  • Inband and out-of-band interference analysis

  • Supports high resolution digital cartographic maps

  • Planning of airborne government missions

  • Transponder gain settings

Case studies

Effective VSAT network design

Challenge

Whether the industry is banking, retail, energy, or mining companies, a reliable corporate communications network is critical to running a smooth operation, especially when using VSATs in remote locations. The dynamic changes in the applications and the size of the networks, as well as the use of multiple resources such as multiple satellites at different orbital locations, and different Earth station equipment manufacturers, can present significant technical challenges. Using an efficient planning process is crucial to providing a high-quality user experience and reduced infrastructure costs.

Solution

With the capacity planning functions in ICS telecom EV, a satellite engineer can design a network complying with each site’s specific technical parameters and usage patterns, and ensuring that every user is provided with a guaranteed quality of service. ICS telecom EV features advanced database management capabilities for both satellites and Earth stations. These functions provide a reliable up-to-date status of use of network resources and support on-going optimization of the network’s application of spectrum and infrastructure at every stage of network growth.

Spectrum usage growth in the satellite frequency bands

Challenge

The last few years have seen an explosive growth in demand for spectrum in the frequency bands allocated to satellite services on a global basis. In part this is due to the increasing range of usesand applications consuming an ever-growing satellite bandwidth. In addition, recent decisions by the WRC (World Radiocommunication Conference) to allocate new services such as terrestrial mobile in the same bands has added to the burden on the satellite service providersin having to ensure interference-free operations and guaranteed quality of service to the end user.

Solution

The simple analysis of neighboring operating satellite networks is no longer sufficient to understand spectrum occupancy and the impact of potential interference levels across the operating frequency bands in the network. ICS telecom EV features technical parameters and dedicated planning functions across all radiocommunication technologies (mobile, broadcast, PMR, radar and more). It offers a wide range of terrestrial and satellite propagation models (ITU-R P.526, P.618, etc) and an extensive antenna pattern library (ITU-R S.580, S.465, etc).ICS telecom EV users benefit from these multi-technology features which enable them to perform accurate analysis of aggregate interference stemming from various sources such as mobile 4G vs satellite ES, fixed MW stations vs FSS, BSS feeder links vs FSS receiving ES and more.
