Two arms of SSE now use ATDI’s flagship radio planning tool. One of them, Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN), provides real-time system delivery for SSE through its SCADA network. This includes RF and propagation modelling, as part of overseeing the company’s control systems across the UK. The other division is SSE Enterprise which works with SSE’s renewables, network and generation operations. The latest purchase will be used by SSE’s telecoms network design team to carry out detailed surveys for near line-of-sight radio connectivity to substations, wind farms and other company infrastructure. The radio links enable SSE to manage its electricity distribution network.
SSE’s extended relationship with ATDI adds to ATDI’s existing customers in the utilities industry: Western Power, sector radio regulator JRC, and ESB in the Republic of Ireland.
ATDI lead engineer Simon Parsons, who was a manager at JRC for 20 years, comments: “It is gratifying that this vital industry relies on ATDI to this degree. There are now a number of UK energy utilities using ATDI tools and one of the attractions to those companies is that ATDI software delivers a consistency of output for all of them. The ability to share spectrum management data seamlessly with JRC is the most efficient way to manage spectrum resources.”
